Blog 9: Flipped Classroom, "Open", PowerPoints

Basically, a flipped classroom contrasts a traditional classroom setting. In a traditional setting, students know what the next day lecture is gonna be on. Then they sit through lecture, receiving more info and then when they go home they are assigned homework. In a flipped classroom, the student is given all the class lecture materials before class. Then when they come to class, they get more individualized help from the teacher so they can leave with a better understanding of the material.

The word open in this context basically means readily available to educators or a wide audience. Normally people are bounded by geography, but with open education, content, and source, people can learn anything at any time. For example, videos of lectures on the internet are readily available for free.

SPARC defines open education as "resources, tools and practices that are free of legal, financial and technical barriers and can be fully used, shared and adapted in the digital environment. Open Education maximizes the power of the Internet to make education more affordable, accessible and effective."

With open content, teachers learn things from the internet that they can share with the class.  Open content can restrict what they can and cant do, which is similar to copy right. OER is a resource that teachers can use to reuse material. With this feature, educators can share materials with peers

With open source, this is software that anyone can access. Developers can add when they want to benefit users.  It is noted that open source is not synonymous to free. Open Office is an example of open source that is a collaboration with Microsoft Office

Many times that I work with Google slides, I learn something new. I really wanted to incorporate a Gif into my presentation and I learned how to! I enjoyed creating content that I actually knew about to use for this assignment. Meeting the slide requirement wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. Learning how to link slides to each other was a feat though.
