Independent Learning Project #1

For my first ILP, I have edited a picture of me in Adobe Photoshop. I was first introduced to Photoshop as a young teenager from my dad, who is into photography. When I got to high school, I took AICE Art & Design, and I was introduced to Photoshop again, but that time, very thoroughly. Since then, I have been well-versed in Adobe Photoshop and I really enjoy using it. From creating flyers to editing pictures, Photoshop is a very diverse tool and it is a great skill knowing how to use the application. Photoshop has many different aspects. The possibilities are endless and I have learned many shortcuts to using the program.

Blog 9: Flipped Classroom, "Open", PowerPoints

https://facultyinnovate.utexas.edu/flipped-classroom Basically, a flipped classroom contrasts a traditional classroom setting. In a traditional setting, students know what the next day lecture is gonna be on. Then they sit through lecture, receiving more info and then when they go home they are assigned homework. In a flipped classroom, the student is given all the class lecture materials before class. Then when they come to class, they get more individualized help from the teacher so they can leave with a better understanding of the material. The word open in this context basically means readily available to educators or a wide audience. Normally people are bounded by geography, but with open education, content, and source, people can learn anything at any time. For example, videos of lectures on the internet are readily available for free. SPARC defines open education as "resources, tools and practices that are free of legal, financial and technical barriers an

Blog 10: Data Collection & Wrap Up

It is important sometimes to cater to your students in terms of relating to them. Connecting to students sometimes requires teachers to be informed on what is going on in their daily lives—and that is through pop culture. Maybe creating a survey on what they would prefer doing in the classroom or a certain topic that they would prefer to learn would help teachers connect on a level that will help them be more apt to learning. This will develop a relationship of familiarity while benefitting students academically. This would work for students in middle school, grades 6 to 8. An example would be history, since it is everchanging and omnipresent. Basically, technology as a whole has been the main topic of everyone's blog. From the different tech we learned about at the Sandbox to helpful skills discussed on the podcasts, there is a broad selection of topics and educational technology that we have learned throughout this course. I think Weebly, Excel, and Blogspot are all app

Blog 7: Twitter, Web Design, & Diigo

It's been weird using Twitter for academic purposes. But it has taught me that Twitter is an important hub for current news and dealings in the world and is very accessible. Besides using Twitter for pop culture as a social media outlet, it is a political outlet too. One benefit of using Twitter is the ease of posting whatever you're feeling at the moment. I will say, I only know how to navigate Twitter because I am an ongoing user but I remember when I was first introduced to the social media app, I was very confused on retweeting and quoting and all that it entailed. I would say some of the users that I follow either tweet a lot or not enough. Working on this assignment was actually interesting. I enjoyed customizing my own web page and seeing what I could put together. It was also interesting seeing my fellow classmates' pages and how they designed theirs. I have realized that like many other things, when you put time into it, it will show for itself, in terms of

Blog 8: Adaptive Technologies

Adaptive technologies are instruments  used  to help people with disabilities use computer technology more effectively. Students with disabilities are sometimes unable to do things that other students can do, but that is okay. It is important to make note of these things so accommodations can be put in place. For example, my line sister has hearing issues so she wears hearing aids. In the classroom, I am afraid that some students won't understand the needs for these accommodations and try to isolate their fellow classmates.    The three domains of Bloom's Taxonomy are Cognitive (knowledge), affective (attitude or self), and psychomotor (skills). Then there are 6 categories of the actual hierarchy.    1) Remembering- Consists of recalling and recognizing, which deals with identifying and  retrieving .   2) Understanding- Consists of interpreting,  exemplifying ,  classifying , summarizing, inferring, comparing, and explaining, which deals with Clarifying, i

Blog 6: Class Pages & Teacher Technology

The web page I chose was my middle school that I attended, grades 6 th  through 8 th . When fist entering the page, I see a sky view picture of the school. I information  about  the school, the curriculum and a section about enrollment as well. When I scroll down on the page, I see a column on the latest posts and news going on in the school. I also see a section for upcoming events that the school hosting. It is great that they put a section on what a charter school is because people often have misinformed ideas.    http://www.northbrowardcharter.org/   There are many technology tools that teachers can use to help them be more effective and efficient. Email is number 1! Communicating via email is an important tool, whether it be to other teachers or to parents. Information is shared digitally through the world wide web, meaning that it is there  forever  and  accessible  anywhere with Internet access. When it comes to being a tool of communication betw
